No supermodel has transitioned into a hit daytime television star like
Tyra Banks has. Whether she is acting, singing, modeling or producing,
she is always on the go. It was reported that, last year, Tyra’s take
home pay from all her endeavors was close to $30 million dollars. Tyra’s
modeling career began when she 17. A runway model at first, the path she
was on was not easily visible, and she has since talked of the emotional
toll the jealousies of others and requirements of being a supermodel
took on her. Modeling was at its unhealthiest during Tyra’s heyday. She
credits her God and her parents as keeping her safe. Tyra retired from
modeling as a Victoria Secret Angel in 2005.
Tyra’s transition into television began in with the series of Fresh
Prince, starring Will Smith. She even did a stint on The Price is Right
as a Barker Beauty, and has several movie credits, most notable Coyote
Ugly. The year 2005 brought Tyra into her own production company, doling
out her own popular talk show, and her reality show, The Next Top Model.
In each venue, Tyra promotes young women and their rights. She’s been
very vocal on hot subjects, and not so popular ones at that! Tyra’s
interest and projects are many. Hew newest once again showcases the life
of a model, called Modelville, in which a $50,000 was competed for by 6
very different and fresh model wannabes. It has recently been announced
that Tyra will not be returning for a sixth season of her talk show. But
you can bet she has something else up her sleeve to replace it!
